Fixer

The first E-6 run didn't kill me

Color reversal is a six-bath process with three temperature-critical steps, and the popular narrative is that a home developer must keep everything within half a degree or the film becomes orange abstract art. So I spent two weeks doing nothing and reading charts, and then a friend lent me an expired roll of E100VS with the instruction "do something with it."

Bathroom conditions: color first bath at 38.0, start 37.9, end 38.3 — the thermometer lives inside the tank lid in the water jacket. Reversal bath and color development drifted less because I stood there with the shower on in another room, which is either diligence or superstition, and the fixer went a degree cool because it forgives.

The strip is correct. Not close to correct, correct — clean base, neutral grays, the red of a mailbox being the red of a mailbox. Two frames have a thin vertical line that the scanner made, because it always does. I have since run eleven more. The second was worse than the first. The seventh was the best.
